Town chairman David Sheepshanks introduced new manager Joe Royle to the press this afternoon and said the club needed a man with experience to turn its fortunes around. Royle himself asked supporters to give him a chance in this his fourth job as a league manager.

It looks increasingly likely that Joe Royle is already the new Town manager in all but name. Reports in a national newspaper today tend agree with what TWTD has been hearing over the last day or so, with the former Oldham boss's official appointment looking on the cards early this week.

Town's second string lost 2-0 to a very strong Arsenal side at Barnet last night. The Gunners included Robert Pires and Giovanni van Bronckhorst along with a number of other experienced players.

An 89th minute equaliser from Dimitrios Papadopoulos gave Burnley a point they probably deserved on the strength of their second half performance. Once again Town were patchy, despite going ahead inside the first minute through a John McGreal header. After Gnohere had equalised Darren Ambrose hit another stunner to put the Blues ahead at half-time.

Yet another woeful Town display saw a 4,000 strong following return to Suffolk after a defeat to Reading and pondering which manager might be capable enough of turning the club around. Town were two-down after a disastrous first 45 minutes for the team as a whole and for Andy Marshall in particular. A second half fightback was halted when Pablo Couñago was shown a red card.

Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler has responded to claims that he is amongst the legion of managers in the running for the Town job. Hessenthaler described the Blues as a "massive club."
